Music Video: Africa by Toto

Well, it is finally over and I have had quite a fun time doing this project. In the end, the finished product was better than I had originally expected. My partners and I were fairly new to editing when we started and expected more things to go wrong.      However, I think there were things that could have been improved in the music video. I wish there were more character interactions that developed the character more and told a better story. Another thing I would say we could have done better was to make the video look better as the quality and the lighting looked off in some areas. In retrospect, I feel that filming more shots, in general, would have been better for the editing and filming process.     Overall, the project itself was fun to do and I learned lots of things from my partners. I would love to work with them again. I can not wait to do future projects and learn even more about editing. I hope during the next project I will be able to help edit more as that was the mos

Editing: Finishing Touches

Image
Today was the end of our editing journey for the music video, after researching editing videos from our last editing session. I was more hoping that I would be more prepared to help the group today.     We began by joining a discord call per usual and thought about what needed to be done. We realized the clips were a little too long compared to the actual music video. So we needed to cut some of them. Luckily, this is the subject I researched. I told them about some of the different clipping methods and gave them as much information as possible.     For the biking scenes leading up to the park, I suggested trying to make a parallel editing cut to make the scene look smooth. We ended up trying to use this method however, it is hard to do this without educated editing skills. Christian then suggested changing the color to make the scene look brighter, which sounded good for this scene.     Next, we went on to edit transitions for each of the scenes. This was mainly Alex's role i

Editing: Learning New Techniques

Image
My partners and I decided to all research different aspects of editing today. I focused on researching different types of cutting techniques. Christian focused on researching lighting and different coloring techniques. While Alex researched transitions and different effects within Divinci Resolve. I believe I may have forgotten to mention this but our editing software is called Divinci Resolve 17.     I learned that there are many different types of cutting methods. Such as a cross-cut, jump cut, and parallel editing cut. Obviously, I learned many others but these are the ones I found the most interesting.     The first type of cut I learned was a  cross-cut which is the method of cutting between objects in a certain scene. An example of a cross-cut could be two people talking over the phone while the camera cuts between each person.      Next, I learned a  jump cut is a type of cutting which can be used to show that a scene is continuing for a period of time. For example, two peop

Editing: A Confusing Day

Image
Today my partners and I decided to start editing our video. We decided the best place to talk was on Discord because of its camera and screen-sharing features. Which allowed Christian and me to see Alex's computer screen. We are also quite familiar with Discord as we often talk to each other on here to do other assignments and study.     Once Alex contacted Christian and me that the download of the video software was done. We all joined a voice call. Alex gave a run down about what had happened the first time he tried installing the editing software it crashed and how uploading the different scenes to the software took an annoying amount of time.     We were very unfamiliar with the whole editing process. So we started to fiddle with the many options the editing software came with. The whole process was very confusing and took a while.     We then started to talk about editing the actual video. We thought the best action to take first was to organize all the scenes by name so w

Filming: A day at the Park

Image
Today was a filming day for my group. It was a pretty hot day and I made a mistake by bringing pants instead of shorts. I realized that I would need to wear the same pants for the next day of filming as well which was unfortunate.  Alex and I had arrived a little early for our filming. So we decided to start the scenes that only included me while he filmed. I am sort of the main character so I was included in every scene, so I knew I had a long day ahead of me.     First, we filmed me riding a bike leisurely entering and exiting the park. Me entering being the first scene and exiting being the last scene of our music video. We used Alex's bike as his grandparents lived quite literally across the street.     While we were at the park I saw a tree and suggested we get some shots of me climbing the tree and messing around on it for extra footage. Just in case we did not have enough footage for the whole music video. We also did multiple extra shots of us doing different things at
